by Susan Britton Whitcomb

Resume Magic Customer Reviews:

Susan Britton Whitcomb presents a completely updated compendium of before-and-after resume transformations and advice how to write a winning e-resume, internet resume, and scannable resume. This book is not just by accident hailed by professional resume writers as the definitive resource for writing and designing resumes. There are sections on virtually every subject of resume and cover letter writing, gathering references, job searching and interview preparation. For me, Susan’s work is the best how-to-write-a-resume book and after reading it you will agree.  It is a very well organized with hundreds of tips, suggestions and examples that are presented with amazing clarity.  In addition, it is a pleasure to read. Don’t be afraid of the more than 600 pages – most of them are resume examples. However, to apply the strategies in this book you need to invest some time and work and you'll end up with a great looking resume that gets noticed and that makes a difference. This is not just a resume book but also a complete instruction manual by a professional resume writer who knows her subject inside and out. This book is “Magic” and my first choice in Resume Writing literature!

Résumé Style

The Elements Of Resume Style: Essential Rules And Eye-opening Advice For Writing Resumes And Cover Letters That Work

by Scott Bennett

Resume Guide Customer Reviews:

Gary M. Kusin, President, CEO, and Director, Kinko's Inc.
"I highly recommend Scott Bennett's book for anyone wishing to create the winning resume."

If you are not very focused on e- or internet resumes, I also recommend Scott Bennett’s “The Elements of Resume Style”. His book takes you through each step of writing a resume so diligently that you feel as if he has practically re-written your resume himself! Throughout the book he reinforces the importance of being honest about work histories and teaches readers how to position job hopping and career detours or so-called job gaps. He puts readers in the point of view of the employer and goes into great detail about how to use language and visual layout of the resume to make the most impact. He supplies tons of descriptive expressions and shows how to turn terms like, "strong interpersonal skills" and "great team-player" into actionable statements with evidence that actually means something to employers. Also important is the explanations on best practices with cover letters, inquiry letters and replying to salary history requests. This book virtually has all you need to create “the winning resume” and all that you need to do, is put into practice what you learned. A must buy if you don’t want to loose time in your job search efforts.

How to Interview Like a Top MBA: Job-Winning Strategies From Headhunters, Fortune 100 Recruiters, and Career Counselors

by Dr. Shel Leanne

Interview Guide Customer Reviews:

The interview strategies that help graduates of the nation's top business schools get the best jobs with the highest salaries

Every job interview is a one-shot opportunity to dramatically improve your career and lifestyle. “How to Interview Like a Top MBA” presents today's best-of-the-best strategies and skills into an all-in-one, MBA-level interviewing know-how. Shelly Leanne shows you how to develop the skills and confidence you need to enter each interview as a top candidate—and turn that interview into an exciting new job. Featuring insights from Fortune 100 executives, headhunters, career counselors, and MBA graduates, this guidebook arms you with:

  •      Insights and advice from top corporate executives, headhunters, and MBA program administrators

  •      Worksheets, charts, diagrams, and other valuable tools for creating a customized interview strategy and plan of action

  •      Valuable lessons on how to read interviewer signals, take control of an interview, turn weaknesses into strengths, ask the right questions, and much more

The book is arranged in such a way that if certain questions don't relate to your profession you can just skip through it. The questions are clear (and many familiar) and the responses sound like real people talking and can be easily modified to suit your profession. The topics covered in the main text are very timely, with chapters about situations in which you may be trying to get a more advanced position, as well as ways to approach a job interview if you have been out of work for a while or if you are transitioning to a new field. The "tough questions" section is what holds the potential to distinguish this book from the masses of unremarkable job-search literature. The book also has a very valuable sample 100 Questions and Answers section. I recommend the book to anyone who wants to prepare himself for a job interview and who wants to improve his chances.
